Abstract

The purpose of this article is to analyze the criteria for measuring income to postulate the Continuous Installment Benefit (BPC), established by Law no. 8,742 / 1993. A study will be carried out on the economic criterion established by law to assess the conditions of social and economic vulnerability of the applicants to the benefit. The study’s problem revolves around the income criteria established by law, which have undergone changes and vetoes in recent months. Through the study, it is concluded that the BPC is extremely important for the reduction of social inequality in Brazil. The family per capita income criteria of ½ minimum wage per person, brought by Law no. 13,981 / 2020, would certainly benefit the population living in social poverty. However, coping with the coronavirus pandemic has prevented this expansion from occurring to date. The study was carried out through bibliographic research, in books, laws, articles, magazines and publications on the topic addressed.
