WELFARE AND DIVERSITY: A DISCUSSION ON ACCESS TO SOCIAL SECURITY BENEFITS BY THE LGBTI+ POPULATION
Main Article Content
Abstract
The aim of this study is to present a discussion on access to social security benefits by the LGBTI+ population in Brazil. To address the research question, the doctrine was analyzed to understand the issue from a social and legal perspective and a structured questionnaire was applied with surveys and data related to the job market, personal finances and social security, using the Google Forms® tool for the “seeds” of the study raised using the snowball sampling methodological technique. With regard to the questionnaire applied, the comparative analysis with previous research confirmed, among other things, that sexual orientation and/or gender identity in some way interfered with these people's entry into/maintenance in the job market, and that assuming their sexual orientation and/or gender identity in some way hindered their professional growth. As for the social and legal perspective, the study's findings show the absence of protective legislation regarding social security rights that respect the trans population and the lack of uniformity of proposals to solve the trans person's aspect in the face of the heterogeneity of the current pension rules, revealing that there is still a long way to go for the LGBTI+ population to have access to social security benefits.
